Sleeping Longer

Alex took a couple of 4 hour naps at daycare this week. He has been able to sleep through lots of activity in his daycare room. There can be up to 10 other babies in his room.

On Thursday and Friday nights Alex slept for about 7 hours straight. He made it for 5 hours straight last night. I hope that this is the beginning of a trend of sleeping longer.

I played with iPhoto '09 for this photo. It is really cool!

Food Poisoning

Food poisoning sucks! John, Mom and I got food poisoning from eating out on Friday night. Somehow my dad did not get sick. He says that it was from eating Marine Corps food. We are feeling better today.

Update: My dad got sick a couple of days later. We do not recommend eating at Floore's Country Store.

Surprise

John is good at surprising me. My Mac Mini had been slowing down for a while. It is over 4 years old and has been a good computer. My birthday is not for about another month, but John surprised me with a new Mac Mini yesterday. Since I am still using the same keyboard and monitor, it took me a few minutes to figure it out. My new computer is nice and fast. Thanks Honey!

1200 Some Miles

I named my blog 1200 some miles, since that is the distance from Dayton, Ohio to San Antonio Texas. The exact milage can vary by your route, so I thought that this approximation was good enough. This seemed to be fitting since moving to Texas has been pivotal in my life after living in Ohio for almost 25 years. Also, part of the reason for starting the blog over two years ago was to keep in touch with family and friends, and many of them are in Ohio.

Tomorrow morning, my parents begin their own 1200 some mile trip to San Antonio. Have a safe drive!

Baby Houdini Part 2

John laid Alex down on his back to sleep in his crib last night. When I went in this morning, Alex was on his stomach. He has been a restless sleeper the last couple of days and has been really kicking his legs around. Somehow he rolled over. I do not think that it was intentional to roll over, but it was still a shock to see.

Back to Work

After twelve weeks of maternity leave, I started back to work yesterday. It worked well that my first day back fell on a Friday so that I can ease back into it. It was good to go back, and yesterday was a quiet day in the office. Things will pick up at work when orientations begin in June. Now I get to enjoy a long weekend.

Since daycare charges for an entire week even if your baby attends only one day, John took the day off to watch Alex. They went out to lunch with Jonh's co-workers and visited his office. After that they came to visit me. On Tuesday, Alex will start at Luv-N-Care Child Development Center, which is not too far from our house. He is on the waiting list for the UTSA Child Development Center, and there will probably not be an open spot until he is at least a year old.

On a random note, Alex kicked on his crib mobile again.

I'm Becoming My Parents

If I am cold, I put socks on Alex. I get this from my mom. The sun hat is too big for Alex, so I put it on Shrek. I realized that this is something that my dad would do. Yep, I am becoming my parents.

Baby Houdini

Alex woke up at 4:30 A.M. today to eat. When I went into his room, I found that he had broken free from his swaddled blanket, which is not unusual. The rest of it was surprising though. Laying on his back, he had moved 180 degrees so that he feet were where his head had been. Then he managed to kick the "nature sounds" button on his crib mobile and turn it on. I just stood there surprised for a moment while he was happy to have his crib mobile on.

Our Weekend

On Saturday, Alex took his first trip to Rudy's. It will be a while though before he can have Bar-B-Q. Today we have perfect weather in San Antonio. It may not be this mild again until the fall. We ate lunch outside and walked at Eisenhower Park. Then it was time to take Grandma Mickey to the airport.

Friday

On Friday, John, Mickey, Alex and I went to Shilo's Delicatessen for lunch and then to the San Antonio Botanical Garden. Alex is a good traveler so far.

Thursday Evening

On Thursday evening (May 14th), Alex took his first mall trip with his Daddy and Grandma Mickey while I went to a scrapbooking class. It is fitting that they spent a lot of the time looking around the new Barnes and Noble bookstore.

Playing

Alex's favorite toy is "Rocky" the lobster from his Grandma Mickey. It plays "If you are Happy and you Know It." Alex likes to look at it, bat at it and grab the rings on the toy. The photos are from 5/15/09 and Alex is 10 weeks old.

Two Weeks of Grandmas

My mom headed back to Ohio yesterday, and John's mom arrives later today. Alex gets two weeks of grandma time.

This is my 200th post (in case you want to keep count).

Heads Up

Alex is getting stronger and is holding his head up more. Sometimes he still is a "bobble head" baby, and you have to be careful that he does not head-butt you when you are holding him. Still, it is amazing how much more he is holding up his head.

Photos

March 8, 2009 - Alex is 6 days old.

March 22, 2009: Alex is almost 3 weeks old.

Sharis is doing a "Project 365," which involves taking a photo everyday. This is a really cool project, and she took some cute pictures of Alex in March.

Testing. 1-2-3 Testing

The baby carrier arrived from Amazon.com, and John needed to test it out. Alex was busy eating, so Shrek was a good substitute.

Healthy and Happy

Alex had his 2 month check-up today. He weighs 12.1 pounds and is 24 and 1/8 inches long. His weight and head circumference are average, and his length is a little above average. He continues to smile more and more.

Sleep

Alex slept for six and a half hours straight last night. This is his new record! For the first time overnight, he slept in his room and we slept in our room. We'll see if this lasts. I hope so!

2 Months Old

Alex is two months old today, and I am not sure where the time is going.

It can be entertaining to watch Alex sleep. When he is not in a deep sleep, he changes positions a lot and makes funny faces.

When he is awake, he likes the mobile in his crib and the toys in his pack 'n play.
