Saturday

We had a nice Saturday that balanced getting things done around the house and getting some time to goof off. John bathed the dogs this morning, and Paddy is pictured lounging on the couch. John hung Alex's new swing on our tree (which came with a regular swing from the previous owners). Alex enjoyed his swing!

"Seem Like You Need a Little Hill Country"

Yesterday we had an enjoyable afternoon at Medina Lake with some friends at Logan's grandparents' house. We decided that we (ok, maybe just me) were not ready to camp with Alex just yet. Alex took his first real swim and liked it for the most part. He was not sure about getting his head wet but still had fun in the water.

Somehow we manage find the fire ants... I stepped in some, but it did not hurt as much as I expected. Besides that, the bugs weren't bad and Alex enjoyed playing outside.

Note: The lake is still low from previous droughts.

Title of the post from Pat Green's Carry On lyrics.

Graduation

I like graduations (maybe this is because I work in higher education).

In the morning on Sunday, May 9th, we all went to Jenni's Nursing Recognition Ceremony. This was a nice ceremony just for the School of Nursing. Alex napped in the car before the ceremony and then did well since it was a shorter ceremony.

Next, we gathered for brunch at Grandma's house, and we discovered that Alex likes lasagna.

Alex and I stayed at Grandma's house while John and other family members attended Jenni's Graduation ceremony. We decided it was better for Alex to nap instead of sitting in a crowded arena. While Alex napped, I enjoyed chatting with John's grandmother.

It turned out to be a nice day and we are so proud of Jenni. She will be a great nurse!

Playing & Meeting Family

Alex met more of his family on the trip to Evansville. He had fun playing with grandparents, aunts, uncles and cousins.

Sunday Dinner

My mom cooks Sunday dinner for all of us each week. Alex has been eating some items from Sunday dinners since around his first birthday. Tonight was the first time that I did not have to fix him any different foods. He ate some pork roast and roasted sweet potatoes. He is eating many more foods now (and actually chewing), and I am reminded that I need to be a good example and cook more.

Update:Monday night, we all had sloppy joe's and peas. Alex ate his peas and I discovered that I do actually like peas!

First Plane Ride

Alex took his first airplane ride (and trip outside of Texas) on May 6th. We flew from San Antonio to Dallas/Fort Worth and then to Evansville, Indiana.

Photo Gifts (and my new favorite photo)

It is that time of year when we honor our mothers, fathers, grandmas and grandpas. I was happy with the photo gifts that I purchased for Mother's Day gifts. I ordered a collage mug from Snapfish for John's mom and included lots of pictures of Alex. Both Snapfish and Shutterfly run regular sales. For prints I am willing to pay a little extra at Shutterfly because of their good quality.

I ordered a photo canvas for my mom from the Canvas People. I used a black and white photo of Alex and it came out great. I wanted to share this because the first 8x10 canvas you order is FREE. You just pay shipping and handling. (Yes, my mom reads this blog, but she is the one that taught be to shop for good deals.) You can get yours here. I learned about this deal from Jessica Turner's blog, The Mom Creative.

For a laugh, head over to John's blog.

Back into our Routine

We are getting back into our routine after visiting John's family in Evansville, Indiana for a few days. It was great to watch Alex meet more of his family, play with cousins, and be there for Jenni's Nursing School graduation. Alex is a good traveler.

During our trip, Alex took to some new foods including lasagna and crunchy veggies sticks. He is getting good at walking while pushing a toy, and at some point he will realize that he can walk on his own. We noticed that Alex has the hidden talent of turning over his tongue like John. Alex learned to give high-fives and play "patty cake" from his Grandma Mickey.

I have lots of pictures on my camera and hope to post some over the weekend.

@ 14 months

Alex is 14 months old today. He is not walking yet, but he managed to climb on top of the end table next to the red chair on Friday night. I expected him to walk then climb...

I try not to turn my back on him for long. I left Alex playing with some toys and returned to the kitchen to find Alex right by the dogs while they were eating. Luckily we have dogs that are good with Alex, and a little boy who was not eating dog food (yet?).

His little personality is coming out more and more. He will let you know when he is not happy with things, especially when Mommy or Daddy leave.

Alex gets to take his first plan ride this month, and we will see what other "firsts" are in store for him this month.
