Staying in Touch

By the time I was heading off to Case for college, email and online chats had taken off. The ways we could communicate had really changed. My first residence hall room in Norton had two high speed internet hook-ups and a phone line. My roommate and I could both be on the internet and someone could still call. Pretty cool, huh?

Now that seems so out-dated. Who needs a land line when we have cell phones? Email seems slow when I could just text you or see your latest updates on My Space and Facebook. I ventured onto My Space a few months ago and finally signed up for Facebook yesterday. At first, Facebook was almost overwhelming because of the constant news-feeds of so many peoples' lives. I found it really easy to find friends from high school, church camp, college, grad school, and San Antonio. I found a few relatives in there too. It can quickly move from overwhelming to addictive. So what's next?

Dresser: Before

We bought a birch dresser/changing table combo from Furniture in the Raw. After obsessing over a crib, we found this piece of furniture pretty quickly. Above is the "before" shot. John will be staining it, and then it will be ready for Alex's room. Next we will be looking for a glider. Since it has been hard to find what we want in stock at Babies R Us and Baby Depot, I am hoping to find more luck online. What did parents do before the internet?

Frida

I thought I'd post a picture of Frida now, since soon she will not be the center of attention.

Stamp Club

No, I do not collect postage stamps. Last fall, I joined a stamp club with a Stampin' Up! demonstrator. (This would be rubber stamping, not postage stamps.) We meet once a month and make a couple of cards/projects. I discovered that I like trying out new crafts supplies before I buy them, so this is a good way for me to explore stamping. It is also nice to meet some new people and set aside some creative time each month. You can see the cards that we made last week by visiting Tiffany's blog.

Are you ready?

Today we hit the 33 week mark of the pregnancy. We are getting asked that question posted above more and more. The honest answer is "not yet, but we will be". The nursery is coming together. Yesterday we bought a dresser/changing table combo, and it will be delivered tomorrow. I have gone though de-cluttering spurts for the last few months wanting to make room for Alex and all of his stuff. I have some more organizing and de-cluttering to do. I think that it is the early stages of nesting.

We started childbirth classes last Sunday and they continue for three more weeks. We've chosen a hospital and have a pediatrician in mind. We've scheduled more classes during the next month on breastfeeding, newborn care, and car seat safety. After talking with other parents, we can think that we are ready, but it will still be a whole new adventure.

Ohio Pictures

It may be mid-January now, but why not post pictures from Christmas?!

John's Blog

Check out John's blog. It focus on his robots and "digital projects," but it has some content for those of us who are not that geeky. The Trees are Stupid video is humorous, and I like the picture of John in the Junkbot post.

We have a crib!

Some parts of pregnancy have been easier than I expected while other parts have been harder than I expected. It was easy to pick out a name and Alex has stuck. For some reason, I found it difficult to choose a crib. I think that reading about recent recalls did not help, but I want to be informed.

I saw a crib I really liked at Baby Depot in Ohio, so yesterday John and I went searching for it here in San Antonio. We found it, both liked it, and bought it. The challenging part was how to get it home. (Note to self, large crib boxes do not fit in a Camry.) It was time to call a friend with a truck. Thanks to Keith we got the crib home that night. John put the crib together today, and we can keep working on the rest of the nursery.

Back in San Antonio

We arrived back in San Antonio this evening. We enjoyed our last Ohio meal at Marion's Pizza today. The bags are unpacked and we did a load of laundry. We are ready to tackle some project this weekend and have lots to do before Alex arrives.

Happy New Year!

Happy 2009!

We rang in the new year with some of our Ohio friends. We've had a great visit and are heading back to warmer weather soon.

This will be a big year with our first baby on the way. John and I will also turn 30 this year and will celebrate our fifth wedding anniversary.
